Sergio Perticaroli was born in Rome and educated at the Conservatory Santa Cecilia by professor Renzo Silvestri. Winning the First Prize at the Geneva International Piano Competition (1950) and winning the Busoni Prize at the Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano (1952) launched Maestro Perticaroli’s performing career in Italy and Europe.

From 1954 Sergio Perticaroli performed numerous concerts in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, playing in the most prestigious music centers: La Scala di Milano, Berlin Philharmonic, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Tonhalle in Zurich, etc., and under the baton of famous conductors like Maazel, Celibidache, Abbado, Giulini, Jochum and others.

In 1959, as a result of an informal meeting with Aram Khachaturian in Cairo, Sergio Perticaroli embarked on a long concert tour of the Orient together with the famous composer performing his Piano Concerto and becoming subsequently one of the most celebrated pianists to ever play it. After his performance at the Academy of Santa Cecilia Sir John Barbirolli invited Sergio Perticaroli to make a concert tour of the most important cities of England under the baton of Maestro Barbirolli and Hallz Orchestra.

Maestro Perticaroli also is very active as pedagogue, heading the Piano Department of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and, since 1977, giving annual summer piano course in Salzburg’s Mozarteum.
