The 9th International Paderewski Piano Competition

Bydgoszcz, November 3rd-17th, 2013

The 9th International Paderewski Piano Competition in  Bydgoszcz took place on November 3rd – 17th, 2013. The Competition is organized under the Honorary Patronage of The President Of The Republic Of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski.

The International Paderewski Piano Competition was held for the first time in 1961. Since 1998 it has been organized every three years, gaining  international recognition. This piano competition is to honour Ignacy Jan Paderewski – a great Polish pianist, composer and politician. His achievements are very well known both in Europe and in the United States. The unquestionable success of previous editions of the competitions confirms the highest (five-star) position in the classification of the Alink-Argerich Foundation and a membership of the International Federation of Music Competitions in Geneva, as well as its outstanding winners, including Mariya Kim, Yulianna Avdeeva, Eduard Kunz.

Inaugural concert took place on November 3rd, 2013 in the Pomeranian Philharmonic. We have heard an excellent Warsaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra The National Orchestra of Poland, conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk with soloist Eduard Kunz. Before the concert was held the ceremony of granting the title  of Honorary Citizen of Bydgoszcz to prof. Piotr Paleczny. The audition took place in the concert halls of the Nowowiejski Music Acadaemy (1st –3rd stage) and the Paderewski Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic (Final). In the 3rd stage with theSilesian Quartet and Final with the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra. The Concert of the Laureate was repeated in Warsaw Philharmonic on November 19th, 2013

The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities, born 1981-1997. The preliminary auditions to the International Paderewski Piano Competition took place in June – July 2013 in  London,    Moscow,  New York,  Seoul, Tokyo, Wien and  Warsaw. Out of 181 young pianist who entered the competition The Jury qualified 48 candidates to the Competition from 15 countries. The winner of the 1st prize was Zheeyoung Moon (I nagroda – 30 000 Euro),2nd prize gone to Dinara Clinton (15 000 Euro), 3rd Daiki Kato. Honorauble mention Sun Hwa Kim & Violetta Khachikyan. The Chairman of the Jury was Professor Piotr Paleczny, Poland. The auditions was open to the public and transmit on Internet.

The main organizer is The Paderewski Music Association in  Bydgoszcz with co-participation of The F. Nowowiejski Music Academy and Project Cultural Menu of Kujawsko-Pomorskie, co-financed by the European Regional Development Funds within the Regional Operational Programme for Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship for the years 2007-2013. Henryk Martenka  became the Director of the Competition and the Artistic Director Prof. Piotr Paleczny.
